    Default Pre installed PC Programs

Everytime i buy a new PC, or laptop for Home or work, all the software that comes with it is installed already. I had a laptop which had a virus and the only way i could get rid of it was by reformatting the hard drive.

So now, with a new version of Windows XP on, how will i get all the other stuff back, can i take it back to PC world and ask them to re install the missing programs??

On a lighter note, I recently bought 3 new desktops for the CNC machines at work, and that came with 3 x MS Office pro 2007 Disks and license keys.

Can i install one of those on the laptop?? as i don't need them at all on the CNC PC's

Final Question, Can i sell the other two ?? or does it need to be sold with a PC, Remember its not Operating System, so can i sell it seperately without a PC ??

    Cheers in advanced

    Gerry

    PS.

I had to by a new Windows XP CD as i couldn't see with all the laptop stuff a Windows CD, only Ultility Drivers CD. :-(

When you purchased the PC, you will have been given (or had the option to burn) a factory recovery kit - a computer manufacturer installs all the software on a computer the same as yours and then packages it all up into an image which is then installed onto all the other computers under that image. The only real way to get it back is to use these recovery CDs - who is your PC manufacturer?

If you have activated the software on that PC then it counts as a computer - Office 2007 requires activation now; technically you can install it onto more than 3 PCs however, only 3 will activate; there is a way around this by using the telephone activation option.

Unless it says on the case/disk/manual "To be sold with a new PC", and you haven't activated that license - then yes, you can sell them

    Thanks Huggy

The laptop in question is an advent (don't Laugh )

I was under the impression that you recieved the software on a CD, not sure about making a recovery disk??? Shouldn't that all be done for me??

Anyway XP is back on, I will use a different DVD burning software, and as for the other odds and sods, i've not had them on the PC for 6 months now so i can probably do without them.

When i bought the CNC PC's they came as a barebones package, I had to buy the monitor seperatly and all the other bits, I got Windows XP, MS Office Pro and Norton Internet security 2009 as part of a software bundle with the PC. I had to install all the software myself

The MS Office Pro Cd's i recieved just came in a sleeve with the License key on the back

I've not opened the CD's yet or installed them or any PC, So i guess i'll load one onto the Laptop and flog the other two

Not sure what you mean by "Office 2007 requires activation now"

    Thanks buddy

Versions of office prior to 2007 did not require activation; hence there is a copy of office 2003 all over the internet that has the product key: GWH28 etc etc etc etc

Now, once you have installed Office 2007, it has o be activated with Microsoft prior to its full use.
