    Red face Site verification

Can anyone explain, in laymans terms, how to to the whole site verification thing...I've never had to do the sorts of things i've been doing recently on the computer, but i'm now working online and really need to get over this small technical hurdle before i can do much else with my online business...

I just don't get where i'm supposed to paste the "META TAGS" to? if (if that even makes sense? if indeed it is that road i have to go down?? I think it my be html, but with the latter i get stuck at the "upload file to page" bit..! Because when i do infact download the file, the screen goes blank minus a bit of text at the top mentioning verification and google, etc, and this is once i've opened the file to download...Not to mention it saying i'm supposed to open up my website page afetr uploading but i'm thinking- huh? in the same tab or where?? God it's probably all so simple but i'm completely stuck and i really want to move forwards with my google adwords campaign , etc...i need to get on those search engines or else it's gonna be even more of a struggle- is anyone out there who can help please?? It'd be much appreciated!

I can take a look and do it if you PM me your FTP details and the verification code.
