Using Windows XP? Installing this is a MUST! - ClearType Tuner PowerToy
So, I setup my new PC yesterday which is still using my trusty professional formac DVI monitor - but fonts were displaying terrible compared to what I'm used to
 Then I remembered that I needed to install Microsoft's best kept secret for Windows XP - the free ClearType Tuner PowerToy  If you have not downloaded this add-on I strongly suggest you do it now - it will TRANSFORM how fonts are displayed on your XP PC (whether on a webpage, word doc etc) on any monitor - whether a basic laptop screen through to a monitors costing £1000's It takes about a minute to download and setup - trust me the difference it makes is awesome! You can get the download here - the ClearType Tuner PowerToy file is the 4th Download in the list found in the right hand column of that page

Excellent.....I can also recommend the image resizer on the same page. Resize any image with just a right click. Really useful if your posting images to forums etc and they are too large!
