Hi Max, I'm no Dreamweaver expert but check you're in the right view. can't remember which one it is but it'll only work in standard view I think. Go to the property inspector and there should be a drop down menu that says 'align' and under there it'll give you the option to centralise the page. Someone will probably give you a much better explanation than this but it's worth a try in the meantime. Like I said I don't claim to be an expert lol!

define your body tag like this:

body {
text-align: left;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
width: 760px;
background: #ffffff;
color:#000000;
}

where width is the fixed width of the page

If your not doing so already, you might want to do the following as well:

/* Reset the basics */
* {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}

a img, iframe { border: 0; }

/* Set up some basics */
body, div, form, ul, li, td, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 {
font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 14px;
font-weight: normal;
color: #000000;
}

puts you on a more even playing field between browsers (well latest release versions anyway )

Steve

Maxine, in that case a very worthwhile book, in my humble opinion, is CSS, The Missing Manual.

I think it's probably the best off-the-shelf guide to designing with CSS. Before this firm I was a developer, rather than designer, but needed to get quickly up to speed - it's probably the best book I've come across for learning to do things the 'right' way. Dreamweaver is a fine enough tool for many, but I feel that you need an understanding of how to do it without DW first if you want to make the most of the software.
