Default Hosting for a forum

Morning everyone.

I have been enquiring about adding a forum to my EKM site this is a response I have had from EKM:

Unfortunately you cannot install a forum onto the powershop servers, you will need a third party host for this. We can set you up a subdomain of say forum.littleblackcauldron.com if you can let us know the IP address of the server that the forum is sitting on.

What is a sub domain?

I get the third party host bit I think.

I feel really stupid, I know what I want it to do in English but cant understand all this computer talk

"There are no stupid questions, just answers waiting to be found"

Step 1 - Sign up to one of our Linux hosting plans, the Home plan should be quite sufficient to get started with.

Step 2 - When our system ask you for the domain name, enter forum.littleblackcauldron.com

Step 3 - Fire over a quick email to support <at> openmindhosting.com and we will let you know the relevant info to send to EKM

Step 4 - Relax

All a sub-domain is is a way of directing content for your main website to either a sub-folder on your current hosting or to set up a separate site on a different host as in this case using a specific record, forum in your case.

I'm also quite happy to install the forum of your choice free of charge to get you started...

Hope this helps

Okey dokes. To save you opening a support ticket to me just send this to EKM after you've signed up using the instructions above:

Quote:
Dear EKM support peeps,

As per your advice, I've signed up for hosting with a chap called Phil and his wee boxes of goodies. The IP address to point the DNS record forum.littleblackcauldron.com at is 78.129.143.18

Please set this up as soon as possible or I may be forced to turn your technicians into mice.

Hugs and kisses,

Nicky
The important line is in bold, the rest is just for fun

I think I might use that threat in the future if they don't sort out the server my site is on
