I usually upload the verification file but if you want to use the meta tag method then you can add a new meta tag to vB in
Styles & Templates/Style Manager Click "Go" on the default template then edit the headerinclude field.
If you're using the vBSEO sitemap mod, then you won't be able to add the sitemap via webmaster tools, it doesn't work that way. You'll see what I mean when you try. vBSEO will ping both Google and Yahoo later to upload it automatically.
To clarify what I meant about not being able to add the sitemap via GWMTs, the site map generated by the vBSEI mod is called /vbseo_sitemap/data/sitemap_1.xml.gz whereas GWMTs require the sitemap to be located in the web root of the site.

Can I still use Webmaster Tools then, or will it just keep asking me to verify the site
You can still use webmaster tools using the method described in my first post, but you won't be able to upload your sitemap with it if the vBSEO sitemap generator has been used.

Ah, I understand now - I'll have to consult Khalid but I think we are using VBSEO for the sitemap, but may have to use the other method as per your post on the other thread
Another thing to bear in mind is that there's a 10,000 line limit for sitemaps that can be uploaded to Google, so when the forum grows you will end up with multiple sitemaps.
