Default AVG anti virus - good or not?

As you all know by now, just had a real crises after being informed that my hard drive is knackered. Just waiting to get it back from the shop, and keeping fingers crossed that something may be retrievable :sad1:

We are now using a laptop which I don't particularly like, but having now installed a mouse, I feel much happier

I have installed a free anti virus called AEG and now have my emails, all 127 of them! Is this free anti virus okay?

I had AVG and it was great in all other areas apart from the fact that it started scanning as soon as I booted up the PC every day and I could never find the solution on how to stop this or schedule scans at a more convenient time. It was probably just me though, I'm proper dumb when it comes to that kinda stuff but our Simon will no doubt help you configure it if you have the same problem- he's such a diamond aint he!!!

I use AVG here at the office, never had an issue with it. I use it in conjunction with Spybot and Adaware.

I am not unconvinced there's not a bit of spyware in AVG at the moment. I get getting pop ups for the new AVG 8. I have the AVG 8 on trial at the moment, the paid version, and there are a few strange things afoot at present, mainly the fact that every now and then all my explorer windows shut down in bulk.
