Wondering if someone can help with this...I got my new PC about a week ago and after a whole load of Vista problems I have finally managed to get it running properly with all my software except for the sound from my speakers??? I've checked all the volume controls and obvious stuff etc but the volume out of my speakers is so low I have to hold them up to me ears lol. There's no windows sounds either. From running a search through google, this appears to be a common problem but I've yet to find a solution that works. Any ideas what might be causing this and how I can fix it, it's drivin me nuts?
Did you buy the PC with Vista pre-installed from the manufacturer, or Install Vista afterwards or upgrade?
Vista has a completely re-written way of handling audio, so the first thing to do is try and find out who makes the sound chip for your PC.
Click Windows Button, Right-Click Computer on the Menu and select 'Manage'
From the Computer Management console, select 'Device Manager', and see if you can spot your Sound Device, hopefully something under 'Sound Video and Game Controllers'.
Commonly it may be provided by Creative or Realtek, as common providors.
Next thing is to go to the manufacturer website and try and find the support and downloads section, and see if there is a latest 'driver' for your chipset/device that is written for Vista. Download, install and see if there is any change.
It might also be worth grabbing a pair of earphones, and plugging them into the speaker out and see if the sound is still the same, 'just in case' it is hardware related to the speakers or connection.
