Remember the advert on TV for Learning Direct, the one where the computer is launched out the window? Well that's how I feel with this printer.
To cut a long story short I bought a HP laserjet 1600 after checking that MS offered print drivers but when I try to print a file say 10Meg in size it will print the first 4 pages (of 22) and stop. The printer's display will say printing and when I click on the print icon on the task bar it also will say printing. After 2 or 3 minutes the printer display will return to ready and a error print message appears.
So far I've tried; downloading the latest driver/ firmware from HP and changing the port properties. Some times it will print 9 pages (of 22) but never all pages.
Thanks for the advice and comments, I've been told by the IT person at the local college that it could be due to the size of memory (16M).
I assumed that lazer printers work similer to ink jet (i.e. use the computer is a buffer), however, I'm told that a lazer will download all the print data and then start printing. So a printer with a buffer of 16M will just not handle large files. I've checked with the data sheet for this printer, maximum memory size - 16M
So how can HP sell this print as suitable for 'professional' use?

The HP 1600 is a low budget printer and for less than £150 you kinda get what you pay for,
Took the printer back to PC World yesterday who promised to check it out, received a call from them today - 'Sir, your printer is working perfectly, we can print any size of file so the problem is with your computer'.
He then recomended that I reinstall windows Vista and the problem should go away. If not they will fix the problem for £69 - the printer only cost £99.
Next time I wandered in to PC World and see a 'bargain' will someone please give me a slap.
I would love to my money back (and I tried), however, I've spent so much time 'playing' with this printer that 6 weeks has past since I bought the 'thing' so that's not now an option.:sad1:
Anyway, I'm going to have a glass of wine and watch 'The Apprentice' and learn from my mentors (and yes I am having a laugh!)
