We have two computers, one in the office and one in the workshop. They are not networked together because one of them is quite old and I couldn't get it working (it needs upgrading desperately!). The older one has an ethernet connection to the router and my laptop connects wirelessly. Is any of this a problem if I were to get a wireless printer? I only really need it to connect to the laptop, and I would get a wired printer except I don't have any room for one nearby!

Thanks Andy. We have a wired one at the moment but it isn't in the room I'm in, and not connected to my laptop. It is just an inconvenience when I need to print things, both for me and the users of the pc. I've either got to send things over to the other pc via email, or access the pages I want to print on the other pc, provided it isn't being used (we run two businesses from the same office). It is do-able obviously (how lazy am I sounding right now!) but I am trying to streamline as many processes as possible.
So i thought if I got a wireless printer I could use it whenever I wanted and from my own laptop!

ok, there is a much easier way of doing it without having to buy another printer as long as you don't mind it still being in the other room. I would be happy to set it up for you for free. When you then print from the laptop it simply prints from your printer without interupting anyone, the PC would just need to be turned on but wouldn't disturb anyone.
a wireless printer will be closer to you but I think you'll find unless you are lucky that it may not be trouble free.
Another option would be to get hold of a wirless printer server which has two usb ports on for your usb printers and a network port for your other printer ,
Andy that would be really great, although if it involves networking the laptop and pc I don't think it is possible.
Simon I take it you have all I need?

Why of course I noticed you signed up to our website yesterday I will give you a buzz on Monday morning if thats ok and go through the availible options,
can you tell me how the system is set up now? is the laptop getting wireless from a router? is the PC pluged into that router? you may not hav to spend any money on this, I don't want you to just spend because someone says you can.
Actually looking at this Simon your suggestion won't work. pretty pointless putting in a wireless print server if the printers are going to be in different rooms. I still suggest either networking the PC and laptop properly (which I would do for free) and printing to the existing printer in the other room, or buying a wireless printer as she first suggested are the best solutions.
I just think you need to look carefully at which wireless printer, I can't offer any good suggestions on this as all of the ones I have come across seem to have one issue or another.
A very valid Point Andy you can only use the wireless printer server if both printers are in the same location, you could however have the network printer plugged into your router and the usb printer in a seperate room connected to your wireless printer server thus solving the problem
