Would you buy this laptop?

Hi all,

I'm planning to buy a laptop and would appreciate some advice about memory and Vista!

I'm looking at the Dell Vostro 1000 (Link for details).

The laptop is really ony a second machine to my main desktop on which I will do most of my work.

The laptop is really only for web surfing, word documents, spreadsheet processing. Real basic stuff.

The question is this. Is 1 GB RAM good enough for Vista or should I go for their upgrade to 2 GB (about another £40).

I've no real experience of Vista but I've heard that it eats memory.

I would personally go for 2gb of ram just for ease of use, as its quicker

Do yourself a favour Mike and stick with XP pro- I got my new Vista PC about 3 weeks ago and have had nothing but trouble with it every flamin day since I got it- you only have to look in the IT section to see all my posts about it- it's b*ll*cks!!!

Problem is you can't buy new PC's with XP anymore.

Buy a copy Mike and reinstall XP on it. I've had enough, every time I install something it f*cks up and it's driving me nuts, not to mention holding me up all the time and losing me money. Honestly, give Simon a call and he'll do it for you far cheaper than anyone else. He might even match that price on the laptop for you- it's worth an ask surely???

Mike I can sell you a PC or laptop with XP on up until the end of June, I can even sell Dell with XP on, or with Vista and XP downgrade rights. I'll post a link later tonight.

in answer to your question, Vista uses all the ram you can throw at it and can still cause you issues. Windows 7 is due out Sept next year, it is a new operating system to replace Vista. is designed for touchscreen replacing the mouse.

what is your budget Mike, even going for the cheapest version from that link its going to cost you £260 including delivery which is a lot of money for delivery (ask Boxby) Simon or I can do PCs or Laptops from really low budget to really expensive.
