Cmputer whizkids? ....An audio gismo for my dell....
I have a standard Inspiron 1300, and the standard sigmatel audio is a pain in the butt!
Unlike my old Vaio it doesnt have the hardware to loop back audio from output to input , so allowing software to record what you hear.
I have gotten away with using a decent mike to record the audio, but it isnt good! -
Is there....either
(a) An alternative audio card i can get for this inspiron or
(b) A clever device driver that can loop back in software or
(c) A gismo to plug into both Mic/Speaker outputs to loop back at an electronic rather than audio level?
Any ideas preferably who can supply afformentioned gismo!
There is no need to create a hardware loopback - you can create a software one
Start > All Programs > Accessorries > Entertainment > Volume Control
In the Volume Control
Options > Properties > Select the "Record" Bullet > tick all the checkboxes > Click OK
Put a tick next to select under the option that either says Wave or Stero Mix - The volume can be a bit tricky so mess around with it before you close the volume control
Selecting this option records EVERY noise your computer makes - including error noises and noises from websites...

Thanks for trying
Sadly it doesnt work, at least not in this case. I think because at the lowest level the card has to support it and it does not.
Admagic - not sure if this helps, but I have a Creative Audigy sound card in my desktop PC that has a "What U Hear" facility. I assume their laptop version provides the same capability. It costs around £80 or if you are in the US then even better at around $80 - us Brits suffer so!
But Thats the other flanker dell pulled. The new dells no longer have a PCMCIA slot, and there is very little available on the new standard bus!
Ah! Well Creative do an Express version here but I don't know if it includes the "What U Hear" functionality. It may not as it seems to be quite a lot cheaper, but that type of functionality shouldn't be expensive to implement so it may be capable.
Or rather than using a mic - you could buy a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack plug and plug it in your audio out and your audio in(essentially your mic) thus causing a hardware loopback without the noise of using a mic
