As a mac user, my choce is restricted somewhat. However, Apple do have a range of laptops available. I have a Macbook Pro which I purchased based on features. Cost wasn't necessarily a huge deciding factor, as I knew I was getting quality
 In the one time where I bought a windows laptop for testing, I have gone based on price, as I wanted something cheap and cheerful that would just run internet explorer
