yesterday I can up with a really great name for a web business. not an area I normally deal in, but certainly a very popular one, and this branding would have given me a great USP as well as being memorable, amusing and relavent - hey, it even rhymed with '.com'!
What's more it's not an actual word so there was a low probability someone had got there first... except when I looked it was already registered by some company in india - and when I looked at the page it was one of those crappy pages just full of adwords links...
If someone had got there before me and was using it for a proper business (or even a proper personal site) then fair enough - but it really ticks me off that it's being used for such a lame 1 page adwords link site.
And the annoying thing is that it's not the sort of thing you'd ever type into a search engine (as it's not a word or combination of words), so it would never get found by a search engine on the domain name. So I don't get it - if they want to have pages of links why not just call them random1, random2 or whatever?
And does anyone know how much these types of pages bring in in terms of revenue (given that the domain name is irrelevent to the content and not a term anyone would ever type into a search engine?)

Very low if that's the case. However, for domains that get good traffic, and have high paying adwords featured, you'd be looking at £xxx/month at least.
They are probably holding onto it to see if someone will buy it from them. Make them an offer - they can only say no.

yeah, I already emailed them (yesterday), but don't even know if the email they published in whois is valid... would be a bit annoying not to be able to use the domain because someone is making $10/year out of it in click fees...
Yeah I agree... it's really annoying when you have a bunch of domain squatters. I couldn't buy a few of my domains that I wanted because they were stupid ad sense pages.
It's just life. Get creative and there's still plenty of life in domains. We got Spectacu.la recently, and while I was at I decided to register Spatu.la which I'll do something with in the next month or so...
I know, but that was a really creative name, perfect for it's target audience - relevant, memerable, catchy, funny, even rhymed. All that and some idiot is just using it to make a few $ on adwords that are irrelevant to the name...
