I have htaccess page but am unsure of the actual code that has to be used.

I want to 301 redirect from

http://www.salgadoinvestigations.com...tigations.html

to

http://www.salgadoinvestigations.com...tigations.html

Redirect 301 /commercial-investigations.htm http://www.salgadoinvestigations.com...tigations.html

Don't forget to 604 the .htaccess

When I do the redirect, can i use the old copy from the old page on the new page or is that duplicate content?

No you can use all the content on the new page as a 301 redirect means that the resource has been permanently moved.

The page should also have the same rankings in the serps (if all goes to plan) as the old page.

be careful with these redirects as you will lose all rankings by google....
i changed mydomain to another domain...
sure your pages will change, but if you have inbound links to the old domain, then these are not propogated to your new domain

that is not what everyone says...explain why you think so please

because i did it myself last week and my site dropped dramatically
