Microsoft Corp said on Thursday it plans to cut prices of its Windows Vista operating system sold at retail outlets in a move aimed at pushing customers to switch to the newest version of Windows. The world’s largest software maker said it plans to lower retail prices for Vista in 70 countries later this year in tandem with the shipment of the first major update to Vista, known as Service Pack 1 (SP1). Packaged versions of Windows Vista sold at stores and on the Web account for less than 10 percent of all licenses of the dominant Windows operating system that sits on more than 90 percent of the world’s personal computers. Most consumers opt to buy a new PC, which comes preloaded with the latest version of Windows.
“We anticipate these changed will provide greater opportunities … to sell more stand-alone copies of Windows,” said Brad Brooks, a Microsoft corporate vice president. In the United States, Microsoft will reduce prices for Windows Vista Ultimate, the company’s top-end operating system, to $319 from $399 for the full version and cut the price for an “upgrade” version to $219 from $259 for consumers who already run Windows XP or another edition of Vista. It also cut prices for upgrade versions of Vista Home Premium, its mainstream product, to $129 from $159. The price cuts vary by country. This price cut may be a good news for users who have problems with their illegal copy after recent security update.
It's good that they are lowering the prices as it can be very expensive, however i have got to say that i still much prefer using windows xp over vista, but my true love will always be with my mac
Afraid They could not pay me to take Vista,I need everything to work, and from what I have heard a lot of software won't on Vista.
A
I have had many problems so far with software needing drivers and drives you mad as it still doesnt work after that. I know a few people that love it i think there mad and doubt they use it that much.
I use XP too and sell XP to most of my clients. next year (september time) will be a new operating system to replace Vista.
some people don't have a problem with Vista, I have it on my laptop with no or very little issues but don't want to sell it for fear of the support issues that would come.
I got my new laptop last summer with it on and spent the first 2 days on the phone listening to the reams of software that it won't work with (basically if microsoft didn't make the software you can forget it). Then had to spend a fortune getting all the new microsoft software to replace the open source that won't work.
To add insult to injury the bloody thing treats me like a total idiot (okay it might have a point some days)
But this is what happens:
ME Find file press delete
VISTA popup message are you sure you want to delete this
ME yes
VISTA are you absolutely sure because once it's gone it's gone, you might regret it later
ME just delete the bloody thing
VISTA how about I just move it somewhere in case you want it later?

lol Sally, the next one is going to be polite and say (after all the above), "Thank you for attempting to delete files you no longer need but we decided not to"
