    Default Could this work?

If you are asking me whether you think that reviewing websites for £25 is a viable business, I'd say no (more below). For sure, I would use this as V1 and buy another domain. No one is going to appreciate a 10 page report where you openly admit that 7/10 of the pages are from templates.

How long does it take you to review a website? If it is over 4 hours, I wouldn't bother. You can get a job that pays £6.25 an hour easy. At 3 hours, its marginal. At 2 hours might be worth doing. £12.50 an hour is a good rate but can you do 37.5 hours a week? You are probably best getting a day job and doing this on the side.

I would give you more advice but I am too looking for something to do online that can make money. If I had any good tips on how to make this type of business work I would do it myself.

Thanks for the help with the link and for your opinion. The reason I'm running this business at all is becuase a lot of small businesses seem to have fairly rubbish websites and are not entirely sure about what to change. At £25 it is a cheap price as well, and is effectively a website consultancy.

These reviews take about an hour to an hour and a half.

Sorry - I thought that being on this forum you might be running a small business, not looking for something to start.

With every Tom, Dick and Harry SEO company offering the same thing for free, its going to be tough. I would consider moving up the value chain. I don't know how much small SEO companies make but the big ones are raking it in. http://www.enforbusiness.com/news/ju...wedes-359.html Read that. Over 50% profit margin. I do run a small business but its affiliate marketing which is highly dependent on google. I want something that doesn't rely on Google. If I get wiped then I have no income.

At 1.5 hours a review, I would give it a go. I always think of ideas in this way. If it doesn't work, you'll lose a few months of time. If it does work, then you make money this month, the next month, ad infinitum. So even if the chances of success are small, then its probably still worth doing as the payout for a win is so much bigger than the loss for the lose.

It's usually one of many services provided though from what I've seen.

    Meanwhile

I Googled 'website review' and the front page doesn't list any businesses that do constructive website reviews so there is room there for someone to dominate that niche on Google's front page.

I found this free review site but they don't provide the same service as you (I don't think)

Thanks a lot - thats what I thought as well.

I do free web reviews and they take anywhere between 1 hr and 2 hrs depending on how small or large they are (number of pages and functionality) and how good or bad they are - the more there is to comment on the longer it takes for me to note the issues and then type them up in my report.

Mine is done by hand and I couldnt possibly churn out 10 pages nor could I fill 10 pages because my short one page report lists only the problems holding a website back from being successful so i'm not sure what your 10 pages includes.

    Hi Indizine,

I'm doing a 10 page report which has LOADS of information really useful for any business, although it is only about 3 pages worth of content that is actually tailored for each website. Like you it takes me about 1-2 hours to do them.

Just out of curiousity, what is your incentive for offering free reviews?

    Cheers.

the work it brings of course

Did you not read your bible?

10 pages is overload for the average website owner who struggles to understand what most things mean IMEO.

Maybe... the extra 7 or so pages just give loads of really useful information on SEO and a few other topics which is laid out in such a way that it is very informative and easy to read.

    It is

But it should be advertised as a 3 page tailored report with 7 pages of info not a 10 page tailored report as it's not a 10 page 'tailored report, the 7 pages are indentikit for every client. If I understood right that is.

There is nothing wrong with this and £25 is a good fee but there might be some grumpy clients arguing the toss over the wording on the site saying it's 'misleading'.

I was once asked to market a book on cross-dressing and it was advertised as 150 pages of great info. It was actually only 30 or so pages of great info and the rest was utter tosh relating to PMS or some other biological garbage copied from a book written over a hundred years go. It wasn't useful to CD's or anyone else for that matter.

I couldn't sell it as a 150 page guide, it was misleading.

Probably a good point to bring up. The slight issue with it is that it's not 3 straight pages and then the rest as a template. There's lots of bits all over the document which will be tailored for each individual website. Each bit links into the next bit so it is very much still a personalized report, but with about 3 pages worth of content which needs to be changed for each site.

What do you think? Thanks very much for your help.
