    Default Small Business Marketing Ideas

What's your best marketing tactic, and why did it work for you?

Mine has been strategic alliances. It has worked best for me because what I offer is a bit different, and the clients I work with would rather get a recommendation than anything else.

    What about you?

There are a few marketing guru's out there who are an inspiration to me. Nigel Temple is very good - and he's offering a free half day training seminar for small business marketing later this month. Go do a google on 'Nigel Temple' and you should find him.

There has to be a complete marketing mix - not just one thing works. Strategic alliances have worked well for me. Telephoning prospective customers. A postcard campaign. Writing books that you offer to prospective customers free of charge. A great web site, and sending out regular and relevant press releases that tell the world that you are a leader in your field... or at least in your front garden. Writing short articles for relevant magazines can work quite well, too, as can lots of 'spot' advertising.

E-mail newsletters worked wonders a few years ago, but nowadays that's flogging a dead horse - there is just too much spam in the world as it is and your e-mail newsletter is just as likely to be discarded without even being opened.

Get set up online, always my first advice step. A good site, with a little basic SEO, can do really well. Ensure quality and spend a bit to make sure it looks professional, and go from there. Use social media to generate interest. You really can't fail with a simple online approach.

    Default Business Networking groups

Enrolling as a member of any business networking group through business networking websites gives entrepreneurs of different standings, whether they be small or large-scale, an opportunity to widen their horizons in the world of business by creating networks where discussions are held, products endorsed, clients exchanged and deals made.

This proves to be a cost-efficient way to expand one’s business because entrepreneurs help each other in establishing reputations in building empires.

I am working mainly online and that seems to be working well at the moment. I have been sending out press releases on aMillionJobsToDo... and have generated some media interest which will be a great help. I dont really know what is classed as doing well though. I have had about 500 hits on the site in the last two days but is this just the norm?

roccodeluca - I had a look on that site and it doesn't mention about offering a press release service. Can you tell me how you did it? Many thanks

One of the best things we did was sign up with Approved Index - http://www.approvedindex.co.uk

Really helpful guys, leads do cost a reasonable amount but they are very well qualified and so long as you are on the ball and make sure you are the first company to contact the lead, 90% of them will close.

We are their top company for SEO and for that commitment we also get access to the unqualified leads which are less money but close quicker.

Mods - Just re-read that and it sounds a bit spammy. We're not affiliated with them, just do trust their service.

Default A strategy is ok, but who is going to do the work?

You have your strategy, are you going to do everything yourself?

I have found many companies have loads of info, but do not have the knowledge or time to spread it around. If you use your website or blog for promotion, you have to update the info often, and certainly the sitemap must be done every week.
