Default Subject header for marketing email

    Marketing Emails

I wondered if anybody had any advice regarding successful subject headers.

I have read the advice at Constant Contact - thanks to another forum member for those details.

According to Constant Contact; Recipients will be looking for 'What is in it for me' and to use the word 'you'.

Anybody any opinions on the advice above or experience of using Constant Contact.

Im using CC, and as peeople are receiving it have actually met me, I ensure my full name is visible for starters, and to personalise it, rather thsn using a info@ email address.

Its hard to think of a title, so I think about the ones I receive and what makes me open and read them. It has to be a title that sounds intersting to read but not something that is cheesy or misleading, or not actually what the content is about.

Also misleading stuff is a turn-off - for instance I have been getting an e-mailshot series titled Chamber Special Offer or something like that, giving the impression its working with or on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce when in fact, its just being sent out to Chamber members.

At the moment my campaign is being opened and read (several times over it seems from the stats) by 30% of recipients. Im happy with that with it being my first campaign and the readership has improved from 24% when the first one went out 3 weeks ago. (Ive been sending one a week).

As it contains learning information, Ive also been putting Part 2 or Part 3 in the title, so the regular readers are aware its a follow up, and perhaps the ones who havent been opening will realise its not just a one off spam thing.

Generally the first thing I do is look at who an email is from before I decide whether to open it or not. If it comes from one of these email addresses that is mail12345@blar blar you've got no chance of me opening it.

If it's from a company I know I might open it but i might not. A lot I get jog my memory about the company which is a plus but I still don't open them i.e. Wiggle is a sports clothing online shop whcih I purchase from now and again. They email be at least weekly - I rarely open them but know they exist and they're first in my mind if I want to order something so their marketing kind of works.

Obviously try to avoid words that spam filters don't like i.e capital letters, the word 'free' etc.

One of the local hotels has on trial one of my reed scent diffusers as it is a safe and natural way to fragrance public areas. So I wanted to send some information promoting the product & perhaps offering a demo to other hotels - starting with the local area.

Lynn, I get lots of special offer emails from Euroffice and my favourite Fat face, unless it has free or discount in the title I don't open
