Yes it does, thats why Coca Cola spend millions, same as many others. But advertising only works when its repeated enough times for recall. You need a proper budget or dont bother at all. Sure, its not for every kind of business, but advertising comes in all forms from wearing a shirt to a 100ft billboard, so its what works for you.

I personally marketing will only work if you get it the right places and make sure that people are more likely to see it more than once and in different forms as this is when they are likely to have a look at your business

Yes it works .Interesting question is that we only need it because of competition in a lot of cases.

Can't see people not buying food of fuel or the necessities of life if adds did not exist.

Likewise companies would possibly sell a lot more goods if they had no huge add budget,simply by the reductions in price they could make.

So I suppose advertising is counter productive in one way.

A necessary evil.

Don't get me started on the price of fuel....

Why has no petrol chain decided to simply undercut all the others by 3 or 4p - everyone would flock there and they'd make a fortune in additional sales - more than enough to counteract the 3p lost.

Oops - rant!

You see a lot of people who use the wrong strategy to advertise these days hence making the whole exercise flop. Many do not measure the success rate either so they have no way in gauging how well it impacted on their business.

Advertising works - but PR works harder !

Advertising is good to keep an established brand in the consumers mind

But, PR is what you need to establish your brand or identity
