Default Press release question

Hi, I was wondering if this would be a good idea. I was thinking of writing a press release to send to beauty editors, with one of the products. I know that beauty editors must get loads of products every week, so would it be better to send the press release via email first and ask if they would like to try a product, and just send something to the ones who are interested?
Many thanks
Sharon

How big is your media list, Sharon? It could get very expensive sending one of your products to every beauty editor.

You may be better off writing and sending the press release and then using the offer of a sample product as your hook when you follow up on the release with a telephone call.

Make personal contact first via email - I'm not sure how many editors look at press releases, but I think you'll find it goes through an awful lot of filtering - so the task for human pick up is to avoid that filter first.

Hi Sharon, I would suggest a slightly different approach with this. Beauty Ed's get sent thousands of new products and gizmo's every week and quite often are taken to nice events and places to check out new product launches.

I guess what i am trying to say is that trying to crack this audience, via PR, is really difficult.

What I would suggest is go via either the dep beauty ed, or the beauty ed's assistant(s). These are the people who do most of the legwork and writing but don't get such good perks.

I think a release and item to them may hit the target.

With regards to finding the right people to talk to, read the mags and find their contact details.

Our own experience shows that sometimes, rather than a press release via email to this type of journo, wrap the product up in a nice pack and include your release, printed on nice paper, or in a unique way.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Thank you, that is all great advice. I especially like the idea of contacting dep beauty ed, or the beauty ed's assistant(s).

You can also try submitting press release on press release publisher.
