Default Would you...?

...advertise?
We are launching a free goody bag and magazine (aimed at families needing help with rising costs). It will contain local & national deals/promotions/samples and goodies..what do you guys think of our advertising rates? They are (on average) cheaper than the other advertising opportunities available for local businesses...but then there is nothing comparable to our project that I can find....what do you think?

All ads include website ad plus link to your webpage...

Full page in mag £500
Half Page in mag £250
Quater Page in mag £130
Marketing merchandise (ie pens with logos etc) - cost of 10,000 items plus £190
Leaflets - (already printed by you) -£250
Leaflets - printing costs plus £250 (should come to same cost as full page ad)
Sponsorship of the printed goody bag - £1000
Other opportunities will be available ay negotiable rates.

Design included if you require it & first issue circulation of 10,000
Will be good to know what you think.
Thanks
Suzie

Hi,

am a little baffled with this post...
The magazine is aimed at families to help with rising costs and yet you are going to bombared them with items to buy?

apologies if I have missed the point of this

Default let me explain

LOL - I suppose you may be baffled...need to work on the dragon's den pitch!!!!
I mean to say that we are providing vouchers/money off/deals promotions to families so that they can get better prices at local attractions/retail etc and therefore still be able to do those things.
We have carried out a huge research project and found 98% of our families said they would like to have such opportunities...amazingly a higher percentage than that said that they would sign up their families (and give their details) in order to recieve such a goody bag. I can't argue with that - they want it.
Hope this clears it up...S

OK I have much experience with placing business ads in local mags, newspapers and the like. From basic cheap local mono booklets to glossy slick A4 business ones.

IMO those prices are costly and for a distribution of only 10,000 but as yet, and to be fair, thatb is only based on what I read in the post so im missing information that I would normally make a proper decision on.

I would need to know what size magazine, it's paper quality, points of distribution and/ or area of circulaiton (if door2door), content quality and relevance, number of pages, etc.

Now I dont doubt there is a demand with the families - I fill in those questionaires for the free thorntons chocs! I love freebies and goodies!! However as business considering advertising, and for something unproven in conversions as yet, I would expect to pay less... not least until it was established and showing results.

BTW, when you say 98% of our families.." - do you mean your own families were researched? And what is the 98% a total of what number were researched?

Thanks for that cracking and honest response.....I didn't want to keep you all day by writing the business plan so there's not much info...but I get your point though...too pricey.
When I say "our" families...have faith!?! I mean the hundreds who have answered our surveys whom we accessed through various enterprising means. I have not asked our own families so as to avoid bias...cause you know your mum will always agree!

well its refreshing to nhear people who have done proper research over and above asking families and friends who, like you say, will almost always agree/say yes, etc.

Be EXTREMELY careful.....

Consumer research is very fallible. When you ask whether people will do something - at a time when it is still just a mindgame, you often get a totally different response when you ask them for real!

Coke - the new product - was one of the most highly market researched products of all time.. All said they would buy it. Nobody DID! ..within weeks they were forced back on Coke - the original - in one of the most embarrassing U turns in marketing history

So just make sure you test everything small scale, get it to work , then ramp it up.

I see "money off" vouchers everywhere...so you need some kind of unique spin for this.
I

As its the people advertising who will make you an income (not the families) then that is who I would be doing the research with.
