I used to frequent the baby section in Yahoo answers very regularly, and did used to generate quite a few site hits, and had some direct sales from it too. I dont have as much time to dedicate to it anymore, but still check for new things to answer occasionally.
Yahoo answers have tightened up on "promotional" answering haven't they. Read somewhere they have a LOT of trigger happy moderatings looking to ban people for the slighest transgression..
Be careful
I think to avoid from being banned from answer sites, you need to provide a nice explanation to other members. If you think your site contains some useful information that will help them solve their problems, then that's only the time you'll leave your links as useful resources or references to them. It's really best to not put links to those questions that are irrelevant to your site..

Oh yes, you do need to be a valuable participating member, not just a spammer!
I have a 'Top Contributor' status in Yahoo answers, and only a small percentage of my answers would contain any links (and all were related and useful to the askers question) but those that I did post always drove a fair amount of traffic to the site, and sometimes sales.
Dragging this thread up again from Feb. I have been considering using Yahoo answers and the advice above is exactly what I have been looking for. I will persist to answer a good range of answers and build some respect.. I know there are direct questions asked quite often that is completely relevant to the site I run. I think worth a go.
