Everyone, get your skates on, Microsoft are running a competition for partners (I am one) where we need to design an IT network to solve an issue for a charity.
It closes on the 23rd of this month so things have to move fast.
If you have or know of a charity that needs a problem solved using IT let me know, the prize goes straight to the charity not me, I don't gain financially I'm just letting you know because I want to help.
The prize is Microsoft will pay £15,000.00 for the solution to come to reality.
I'm not sure if this project idea would qualify as it's a very small one in the great scheme of things, but as a charity trustee, I have been trying to get someone to help set up a forum with space for a comprehensive members' business directory and relevant articles etc. A bit like this sort of forum but for members and supporters of the charity who are keen to support each other in freelance work, self employment, small business and social enterprise.
The idea is to have a kind of ethical /preferential trading community for people who are often struggling to make ends meet while educating their children out of school, often due to bullying or special needs.
My son set up a basic forum (one of the free ones) but I can't understand how to get the thing to work (and he is not very tolerant of my techie failings) I am now considering stumping up the cash for vBulletin and I have got a domain name but have made no further progress.
At the moment we are operating on a yahoogroup which is almost too dire to confess to here.
