Default Clicks, Impessions & CTR

Just had a look at my adwords account...now, im far from understanding it but even I can see these figures are not good

Clicks = 36
Impr = 1538
CTR = 2.34%

Ad is showing in average 2.8 position

What does this suggest might be wrong ?

hi chubster,

you are obviously running on 2.34% clicks from the traffic figure of
1538.

it would suggest to me that your advert isn't pulling in the numbers
or it could be that the terms that you are targetting are too general.

one way to find out is to split test your adverts.

leave the one running now and then produce another one on the
same campaign.

adwords allows you to run two adverts and will alternate these and
give you the results so that you can see which one pulls in the most.

make sure that you keywords and terms are not too general as you will
get a large bounce rate.

what is your bounce rate Chubster?

regards
stephen doyle

Sorry I said I was looking in Analytics this should have read Adwords. I have edited the original post

The keyword those figures relate to is "Pet Supplies" exact match...it is very general but this is just a experiment.

According to Analytics the bounce rate for Pet Supplies is 6.45%.

hi chubster

the bounce rate is really low so that proves that the ones who
clicking are sticking (so to speak)

pet supplies could be a little too general but still needed so i would
try the split test and see what happens.

as long as it isn't wasting too much of your budget.

Hi Chubster,

I wrote an article some time back about getting the best out of Adwords. There was a section in it about split testing. Here it is!

Always, always have more than one advert running for an adgroup. This allows you to see which advert is getting the best clicks through rate. You can then change the lower performing adverts and try to beat your best one. You will soon find that you have some very effective adverts.

However to test properly, you need to set the adverts to rotate evenly. This is set in the campaign settings. In the ad serving option under the advanced settings, make sure you select the radio button for Rotate: Show ads more evenly

Glad to be of service Stephen.

I think the admins might want to move this post though to the PPC topic.

Just to clarify, with the split testing, if you normally spend for e.g. £50 per month on 1 advert, are you suggesting that you should allow a £50 budget for the second ad (total of £100 per month) or allocate £25 to each ad?

hi tigglet,

it will be the same budget but on occassion change the advert spread
over an even time.

this will see which advert generates the most clicks not eating into your
budget further.
