Default Facebook Advertising Keywords

Hi all,

Amongst other things, I offer a computer & laptop repair service within about 15 miles(ish) of where i live.

I have setup a facebook fan page and invited all my friends but now need to stat advertising it, there is a link to this page from my homepage but i want to try the paid advertising option as it has worked well with Google adwords so far.

My problem is, Facebook uses targetted advertising meaning it picks out words from your profile to target ads to you, (i put i'm interested in swimming so get offers from speedo) that sort of thing.

My problem is, the only words i can target are "computer" or "computer repair" which would be someone who is interested in computers and so is the least likely to use my services.

I have already set the geotagging option meaning my ad will only show within 25 miles fo my nearest city which is fine, am i just going to have to advertise to everyone within that area?

Any ideas would be great.

thanks

Hi,

You need to think about your customer to help you target in on the right demographics.

For example: do you mainly repair computers at small businesses or is it home users?

If it's small businesses then maybe using terms like business owner would help you find business owners in our area who could use your services.

However if you are after the home user then to be honest with you current setting of 25 miles from your home I would leave it as advertising to everyine in that area in Facebook.

Be prepared for a low CTR though.

Have you set the age settings as well?

Mike

Thank Mike,

Very helpful. I will see if i can run 2 adverts, one for small business owners and one just going out to everyone located inside the 25miles,

the small problem with this would be the only way facebook/google would know where you are would be from your ip address, anyone using a proxy server, mobile broadband or corporate network would fall outside of this area even though they are physically inside it.

Oh well, i'll give it a go and see how it goes.

thanks again.

Facebook location targeting works on the location that you put into your Facebook profile and not on your IP address - at least that's what I believe.

Google works on IP addresses and as you rightly say it's a bit flaky!

I'm pretty sure Mike's 1right there, facebook uses the location added by the user rather than a ip address to establish your whereabouts. One bit of advice I would offer is that you keep the ad simple and to the point. I've been using facebook for a number of sites for a little while now and found that by writing clever ad's I drastically increased the ctr however the bounce rates where very high too.

Best of luck with your campaign!!
