I thought I'd post up the keyword tools I tend to use in case they are of interest to anyone.

First up is Wordtracker. It's the only paid for keyword tool I've seen that I'd recommend. I put together a video of how it works here:

I need to ask a question because this checking for keyword ranking is doing my head in.

Inow have a zillion tools and each one tells me something different so Iget confused and go and do something else (usually in time out )

Rank checker gives me one set of numbers for keyword ranking, then I go to google webmaster tools and get a totally different set of numbers.

I just clicked a link in webmaster tools for a keyword they say I am in position 12 for and I am not on the first 10 pages of the search.

When you actually type a keyword into google and search you then get totally different results from the ones in all the rank checking gizmo's.

I can answer the Webmaster one for you.

Webmaster is telling you your best 20 rankings.

However what you might not realise is that it means across each of its networks (ie: the .com google, the .co.uk Google etc).

So you are told that you rank 12 for a keyword by webmaster. I can almost guaranteed that is for www.google.co.uk. When you check in Google you were probably checking against www.google.com.

Annoying isn;t it!

When you are in Webmaster and looking at your top search postions, you should see a drop down box (It's actually a drop down arrow) next to the words All Searches All Locations. If you click on that you will see a drop down box called locations. You can select uk, USA etc.

By selecting UK, I bet you'll see yourself in position 12. One the USA one (ie: google.com) you will probably be much lower.

That is brilliant Mike thank you. I have checked and I have webmaster set for uk but I haven't worked out yet how to get google to search for uk too (it only gives me worldwide or Egypt).

Yes it's very annoying and someone needs to write a program so everything you look at gives you the same stats.
