I have decided to abandon the 123 reg website (for now)

and start afresh with a vistaprint website

It's still under construction.

The content is very straightforward and not written in flowery terms as it's aimed at local traders who are too busy and tired to read pages of text.

Hence copy is straight to the point.

I just want your thoughts on instant impact effect and whether the copy is too basic and needs backing up with something more substantial and persuasive.

Maybe you need a more direct message about how your services will make people money.

Writer and Internet Marketeer may not mean much to people.?

Something like:

"Good Copy will Make ( save) You Money"

Vistaprint is a great package to work with.

I will amend the copy heaps as I go along.

The details section does though explain more why good copy makes sales, but I'll get something more specific on that front page.

My target audience will be painters and decorators, window cleaners, gardeners and so on. People who don't usually advertise online by may spend hundreds on paper ads and flyers.

Not only do they not advertise online much, the search volume for such services also also quite low and especially since people will generally search locally, that narrows down the numbers somewhat.

I think that the "robbing the bank" link is a bit weak - and he's actually knicking silver in the pic.

TBH I can't see most painters,gardeners etc searching for this info in the first place - it tends to be word of mouth that gets business done.

I'm going to approach the target audience personally, not wait for them to find the site.

Meanwhile, I heard one Painter Decorator complaining recently he spends £2,000 a year advertising in newspapers and his phone hasn't rung in over a month.

My prices are so low, there is nothing to lose and everything to gain by online advertising.

Yell.com etc wouldn't be so popular if people weren't searching for local services online.

I am confident businesses will benefit by allowing searchers to find them.

This is how they find me after all. I have another business and that is the only route by which I advertise.

I threw up a WP site and a free theme on a spare domain, and chucked in some copy, took my all of 15 minutes just now! I've done it this way a) because it was quick and b) because it looks more 'real' than writing text here.

Of course it's my copyrighted text, so it's not for copying, but this would be my suggested approach - less about me and more about what I can do for you.

You can also see that a free WP theme can look more professional and this has cost me zip.
