Would you believe me if the roles were reversed?
Its a moot point anyway. A sole trader with nothing to hide and a unique product should not fear putting their address on the website. Chances of stalkers or disgruntled customers coming to the door are slim to none. This risk is more than offset by the extra trust that having a physical address on a website gives.
Personally I am just very paranoid as my product is generic and I don't want anyone knowing what I am doing. Hence no addresses on any of my sites.
Errr, yes if you were me
anyway, regardless of laws and regulations, it's up to individuals if they want to comply. No one is gonna come chasing you and fine you for not doing it. But like I said, that's not the only reason for doing it.

Quoted from Statutory Instrument 2002 No. 2013 The Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002. Note: As a gov.uk address, I would say that it carries some weight...wouldn't you agree?
"information society services" (which is summarised in recital 17 of the Directive as covering "any service normally provided for remuneration, at a distance, by means of electronic equipment for the processing (including digital compression) and storage of data, and at the individual request of a recipient of a service") has the meaning set out in Article 2(a) of the Directive, (which refers to Article 1(2) of Directive 98/34/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 June 1998 laying down a procedure for the provision of information in the field of technical standards and regulations[5], as amended by Directive 98/48/EC of 20 July 1998[6]);"
I've included this in case the following quote - from the same document - was...hmmm...unclear. Note the wording - "any service normally provided for remuneration, at a distance, by means of electronic equipment for the processing (including digital compression) and storage of data, and at the individual request of a recipient of a service". Just to reiterate: that's any service; regardless of being a limited company, partnership or - dare I say it - a sole trader.
To continue:
"General information to be provided by a person providing an information society service
6. - (1) A person providing an information society service shall make available to the recipient of the service and any relevant enforcement authority, in a form and manner which is easily, directly and permanently accessible, the following information -
(a) the name of the service provider;
(b) the geographic address at which the service provider is established;
(c) the details of the service provider, including his electronic mail address, which make it possible to contact him rapidly and communicate with him in a direct and effective manner;
(d) where the service provider is registered in a trade or similar register available to the public, details of the register in which the service provider is entered and his registration number, or equivalent means of identification in that register;"
Now, if that isn't conclusive enough for you, I suggest you contact a solicitor who is proficient in these matters and ask their advice. Of course they'll probably charge you. I could link you to a couple of sites that provide free legal advice but, to be frank, I've wasted enough time on this already.
If your trolling -and, in my experience, people who use phrases like "Can you point me to an authoritative source saying that?" usually are - then I've just fallen for it - silly me.

Thanks for that. I am not trolling. I assure you that, I would really like to know these things and an authoritative source settles things once and for all.
Reading that, it does sound like its for "a person providing an information society service". I think that is different to selling soap online.
as far as i'm concerned all we can do is advise in our best capacity. I hope the OP takes it on board to maximise every possible chance of success![]()

OK. I accept that you are genuinely looking for "an authoritative source" and I unreservedly retract any reference to you being a troller. But, surely the phrase "any service normally provided for remuneration" covers any situation?
Whether you are running an on-line shop to sell your product or, as in my case, advertising my services. I really do think that this just about covers any eventuality.
Back to the pics, if that's OK, (Outlaws and Gary Miller are spot on. Why would anyone want to distrust HM Govt and/or one of the biggest legal firms in the world ??).. back to the pics:
The pics, as stated, really need reshooting. If this is not possible, set up an action in Photoshop to do:
1. Select 'Filter' on the menu bar, and choose 'Sharpen' and then 'unsharp mask'
2. Enter these values into the box:
amount 18, radius 40, threshold 0
3. follow step 1 again and enter these values:
amount 150 radius 0.3, threshold 0
4. Select 'Edit' on the menu bar and choose 'Fade unsharp mask'
5. Enter these values:
opacity 100%, mode darken
6. Follow step 1and enter these values:
effect 150 radius 0.3, threshold 0
7. Follow step 4 and enter these values:
edit/fade USM, 50%, mode brighten
Which changes the original, left, to the one on the right. Not brill, but OK given GIGO.

@benr123: Sorry to be so nosey, but what - exactly - are you afraid of? Your Website isn't included in your profile or your signature. Neither do you provide a contact e-mail - other than A1 Forum's internal contact system. How do you expect people to be able to contact you, possibly with interest in your product?

Hi ks196,
I see you've made some changes since my last post. Unfortunately, your meta description is merely a duplicate of your meta keywords. You still don't have a doctype, a natural language specification or a character encoding specification.
Also, I was going to suggest how to include the correct doctype, language and character encoding. But, to be frank, your changes introduce HTML into what is an XHTML document.
If you would like further advice on these issues, then please PM me. Of course, you should only do this when you have received indepent advice from a 3rd party. But please believe me, my concerns about your site are very real and need addressing.
My personal belief is that the system you have bought into does not give enough information for beginners. What I'm trying to say is that I don't blame you...I blame the software supplier.
Regards,
Gary
