Looking for your feedback on a site designed to put web designers in touch with new start-up businesses in the UK. I'd be interested in all your feedback, not just look and feel, but also:
- Does the content make sense?
- Was it clear how to sign up for the free monthly summary?
- Would you find it useful?
Thanks.
PS - Hopefully the super-designers amongst you will also notice it's XHTML, semantic, micro-formatted and has an elastic layout (go on ... try changing your text size ... )
Can I ask where you obtained these names from and how are they validated? Are they from Companies House mailing list?
They are all Ltd Companies and as such, there are around 23 business names at the same address in Carcroft, (Im assuming an accountants address for Ltd Co. Reg purposes? and one as a co director and a co sec of same business listed separately.
Therfore are you providing real trading/principal place of business addresses?
The information you see on our web site has been compiled with the help of both private and public sector partners. Before any information is uploaded to the site, it is validated against the official UK government register of companies.
Looks like you are going for a simple Web 2.0 look and feel. In my view it's not quite there but only because the typography is a bit iffy. Polish it up and the look and feel works for me.
Also, I agree with redEVO (sorry dont know your name yet) the line-height on your tagline "get in touch.... ", is way too big, you need to decrease and it should look pretty solid.
Ref private and public sector, the DPA will prevent certain start ups data being shared therefore I can only assume as they're all Ltd Co that it must come from publicily (even if sold) available data.
You didnt say, but are these trading addresses where people are actually based and working from, or registered Company addresses which are not the rtrading address?
Many people trade from an address other than the reg office, and I doubt, if they are accountants addresses or home addresses) that they will want deluging with mail and other forms of contact from web designers. Is reproduction of mailing lists allowed?
As the information is validated against the official UK government register of companies, only Limited Companies are shown at the moment.
As you rightly point out, the address shown is that of the registered office. We are still working hard to identify and remove companies using an accountant as their registered office; it's disheartening to hear the first post code you tried has not yet been filtered but rest assured we are working on it.
We are certainly not reproducing anyone else's mailing lists and the service is designed to allow small, local companies to offer each other timely and relevant services, for free; we are not selling not huge 'spamming' lists or similar.
