Default Please review my website "maxpeople"

Hi,

I'd be grateful for some feedback on this site...

http://www.maxpeople.co.uk/

Particularly, the look and feel and whether its purpose is clear.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Mark.

Hi Mark, I took a look at your site but thought the appearance was rather uninspiring. It is clean and functional, but looks amateurish I feel, perhaps because it is very simple.

I was none too clear about the purpose of the site. Is it offering information, selling a service, or is it a private club (which the "about us" seems to indicate)? It depends what you hope to achieve with this website, but if you want to attract lots of visitors and create interest for them, then I would suggest adding a lot more content to the site. At the moment I would not have stayed more than a few seconds as a casual visitor, because you are competing with lots of other sites that do offer many pages of useful information.

I think the font is a little hard on the eyes, it doesnt seem to clear to read, could be my monitor.

The page is a little boring and white, nothing that would make me remember your site amongst the many i have seen. Infact, as I type this i cant remember the name of the site... not a good sign. Dont go mad with colours but look at ways of catching the eye subtly.

How do I call or email you if i want to, I cant find that info. I wouldn't neccessarily want to use your form. Id consider adding contact details to that page

This may be as the site specifies Century Gothic as the typeface to use as as the primary font, not a great idea as Century Gothic isn't great for copy, especially at small sizes, and even worse on screen for a website. I would definitely recommend getting this changed to a more web friendly font, then if you really want/need to keep CG use it in images as titles.

Hope that helps,
Greg

I just checked on the three browsers I have installed. The text looks bad and grainy on Firefox, but not too bad on Internet Explorer and Safari. It could just be the settings on my machine/monitor, but if I had viewed the website on Firefox I would not like the look of your font at all. It might be worth playing around with fonts and sizes to come up with a design you like, but which looks better.

Try Googling for "Web-safe Fonts" to see the preferred font types - there is an article about it on Wikipedia. Sorry, I can't post any links since I came over from UKSBF.

Mark. Sorry but I have to agree with the others on here - Uninspiring, text too small, hard to read even the colours are bland.
Maybe because it's not really aimed at me, but I actually couldn't work out what it is you are selling/ promoting etc.
There's no CTA, no real information.

On the technical side it's good that you've used modern code but you've left out vital SEO context and content.

Give me a shout if you need a hand bringing it up to scratch.

The design looks good and clean but it's too simple and plain. Why not add a header where you can put the title of the site and its logo to make it look more complete and appealing.

Overall I like the look and feel.

I assume more content is on its way? This will probably make the purpose of the site clearer, as at the moment I can only guess at what it is all about.

I agree that the font does not look good. My site also uses Century Gothic, and it looks clear on every computer I have viewed it on. In view of the comments here, I might need to look at changing it.

The header of the site says Max, the company name and book reviews are signed off Max Money, and the domain name is maxpeople. This is confusing. I think you need to pick one name and stick with it.
