We put up our first website in January http://www.efficientenergysaving.co.uk
We have been using a product called Site Build it, which includes lots of useful tools. At the moment we are only receiving about 30 visits per day. I feel that this figure is very low and would like any ideas what we will need to do to improve on it.
3 weeks ago we started a second website http://www.businessaccountingbasics.co.uk This site is already receiving 30 visits per day and as yet we do not have many pages.
On both sites we are mainly using Google Adsense as income with some affiliate marketing. If anyone has any further ideas for earning money on the sites please let me know.
Your comments would be appreciated as to how we can improve either site.
It looks the way it does because of the whole site itself, which looks akin to a DIY job. And whilst people want to save money through accounting or energy, that doesn't mean your site has to reflect the same principle.
Whilst some people say visitors dont care what a site looks like, I disagree, because if the look and feel of the site smacks of spam, money-grabbing, distrust, e-mail collecter, and any or all of those words, then image does matter and the visitor will click away.
In your case, you have to prove that what you say on your site, has credibility and is worth reading. That has to start with how you want people to perceive you when they land on the site. So you have to be credible and believable.
Good post indeed on the saving money bit. I don't think many people think about the sites before they are going to build them. I try and lay out my initial design before hand to get a better idea what I want before I send it over to the designer.

Overwhelmed by too much information? http://www.Get-Better-Grades.com
I checked both sites and I saw that none of the pages are ranked by google (?). If the first site was launched in January, it should be ranked by now. Overall, it looks fine. The domain names could have been shorter.
i think the design is ok but why have you used images for the menu links .. change them all to real text and style them with CSS and your site will be more search engines friendly
Apart from that you could also be using CSS and layers instead of tables for the design and then you could use semantics to tell the search engines where to go and what to expect .. the links at the top of the page, becasue they are al images how a load of code at the top of the page so it takes longer for the search engines to get through to your good stuff... clean up the code and i bet your search engines rankings go up
