I reckon thats one of the clearest business directory home page's Ive seen for some time. Nothing worse than an overloaded confusing arrival page (usually the home page).
I can see what is on offer and where to click within seconds. Nice, clean, clear pages. I'm viewing it as a user by the way.
I don't know much (or in fact anything) about directories but I think the site would benefit from a little wordsmithing. It might not seem a big deal but often poor English can reduce the perceived professionalism of the site.
e.g. on the homepage
"join us now today" sounds clumsy, opt for one or the other i.e. join us now, or join us today
"Meet same e-business minded people. Discuss and share experience and thoughts." The first bit could be replaced with meet like minded e-business people. In the second bit, "share your experience and discuss your thoughts".
These are just two examples but I saw a fair few more across the site. I think you can get away with it on a blog but not on what should be key and relatively static content such as: homepage, about us, advertise with us, submit a listing, and business directory.
There are certain internet categories where credibility/professionalism is important e.g. news, and there are others where it's not so important e.g a humour site. I think your directory is towards the news end of the spectrum. So I would definitely recommend you have someone go over it to edit the copy. On a positive note I like the design and layout, it's crisp and clean.

Unfortunately, we have search engines to blame for that.
Imgine how much nicer all websites would be now if web designers didn't
have to consider search engines when building sites.
I disagree; I dont see how overloading your home page with adverts and other things trying to sell 'other' stuff to me, or even upsell, has anything to do with building for the search engines
I've added our site to the listings and it was painless enough. The real measure of the success of such sites is how many leads we get, which we measure as traffic plus e-mails and calls.
