My site has been up and running for about 10 weeks. After some orders from the USA from hairdressers and individuals (I'm using Adwords to target there) they have dried up, even though the visitor numbers are increasing.
I have recently changed the design using a template from Open Source Web Design.
I know I need to improve the photos and am working on this now, and I know I need better quality video clips.
Can anyone suggest anything else - maybe even pulling it down and starting again.......?
Any hints would be most appreciated!
Many thanks
Brian
1. Colour contrast. I'm actually finding it difficult to read what the site says because of the pale text. You want to make it as easy as possible for your potential customers to read your site otherwise they'll just go away again.
2. How do you place an order? You should make it absolutely clear how to place an order - this needs to leap out at your visitors. I found the PayPal button confusing because I thought that it would lead to some kind of online payment. If they need to contact you then say so - it's quite a long page so try saying it several times throughout. Use what it's called a 'call to action' - "Contact us today to order" (bigger and bolder than the rest of the text and linking to contact details).
3. (I know I said a couple but just thought of another one). Where you list your colous it would be good to see individual photos of each colour option - I'd certainly want to see that before placing an order.
all of the photos on the homepage were of the product in packaging, the photo's of it actually in someone's hair was hidden on a easy to miss link.
You should make it much easier to find those photos as people will want to see how it works. But the photo's of the hair need to be better, the tinsel is very hard to see in those photos.
And they attach by glue gun? how many women have glue guns? maybe you should sell one on the site as well...
I think you need a better way of attaching them to your hair than glue gun! I assume you mean hot melt glue? Isn't that pretty dangerous to use in your hair? And how would you get the glue out again? And of course, like Dymo says, how many people own glue guns?
Many thanks for these useful comments!
I'll change the text colour and re-write to make it more obvious how to order. Photos of individual colours will be added tomorrow, and I'll have another go at better images of tinsel in hair using different models and colours of tinsel.
I'll have a go at changing the site colours - maybe something glittery and shiny would be more appropriate.
Most users tie the strands into their hair, but they can be glued - mostly done by hairdressers I believe. But it's a good idea to offer glue as well and I'll look into this.

maybe split it into 2 paragraphs - one for consumers the other for hairdressers - and tell the user they tie it in and tell the hairdressers they can 'glue it' as well...
First, well done on getting visitors - now you have something to work with!
I dont know your business well, but I do know e commerce and websites..so I would think through critically..
1. Your offer..is it bold, relevant, attractive, competitive (I cant answer those!)
2. Your site journey..how easy is it to make an order. Bear in mind your customer may be impatient, in a hurry, not used to ordering on line etc..make it VERY intuitive - I think you could spruce up here a little.
3. Go for colours that contrast and compliment, never clash. This is subjective, but there are some colours that obscure each other.
The site is terrible at what it does. it took me GAES to find the price. That is a great product, real fun and the kids will love it.
for me, after reading for a while, it looked as if it was a wholesalers page not a retail page. I would redesign it, have a wholesalers/retailers/trade link, and a BUY NOW for £2.50 button there as well.
I think that before you go near a keyboartd you need to sit down with pen and paper and write down what you want the site to do. ie attract dealers, sell direct, etc, and then work out a route through the site to that goal. Then once you have done that, go back to the keyboard.
