Be quick to set a level of expectation to the caller. State what level of priority you will give to looking at the proposition and what timescale your going to give for a decision.
The caller will then prioritise other prospects as he already knows when you have committed to get back to him. If he/she is any good, they will have a tight call back schedule and call you when you have said to.
Those who try and push and bully you into an early decision, don't do business with as they aren't professional.
As long as I have got time, I sound interested in what they are ringing
about, ask a few questions, ask to see their website, get the name of
their company, get their personal name, ask them where they got my
details from.
Once I have all this info, I thank them, say not to ring again, hang up,
and file either a TPS or CTPS report.

The TPS will not apply if they are contacting you on an advertised business telephone number dude.
I am registered in all aspects but it doesnt stop folk calling you up whom you have not given prior permission to call you. They claim they check the TPS/CTPS but some dont even know about it, let alone check it.
Following on from a previous thread I would be interested to learn how people deal with 'sales calls'.
"Detective XYZ. Who's this? Are you aware you've phoned a murder scene? What's your relationship to the deceased? We're going to need to question you."
