I have a few queries, rather than starting a new thread I will just carry on with this one.
As you know I am trying to get higher up in the SERPs (aren't we all). I have been adding some good content on my site (product descriptions) and in my blog.
This weekend just gone and tonight I have spent some time to do link building, looking for some related sites to shove my url on. Apart from shopping directories there isn't much more I can do APART FROM go on to some decent gadget blogs (with very decent PR, there is plenty out there!) and add a few comments for products I can talk about.
So my questions are:
1. How much weighting does link building have on SEO? Is it a huge factor, or just a teeny one?
2. When I add these comments on blog sites and include my URL, it makes my 'name' clickable to my site. Even though there is no alt text, I try to make my 'name' related, e.g gadgets blog or gadgets man. Alot of these sites are PR5, PR6, PR7, PR8. How much does google like this? Does it like it alot?
ok in the scheme of things link building is pretty well up there.
Hard to say if it is as important as on page optimization.
Probably best to say its a partnership,in that no matter how good your on page SEO is you will be unlikely to get to the top without some good links in the more competative areas.
I think in the less competative areas on page SEO can win even with very few links.
an way to find sites that will add your URL is to put in google "jet ski"+"add url" using your product instead of jet ski.

Getting decent back links is a very important part of SEO but:

All blog comments are set by default to "nofollow" - so you get zero benefit from the links, apart from more exposure/traffic, and therefore anchor text is irrelevant as well
