    Default SEO Slap?

Has there been a recent algorithm shake up from Google?

A client of mine has just dropped like a stone from the organic listings.

Luckily they have me managing their Adwords so they are still number 1 there but I think their SEO expert is about to get a call

I think there has been a big change over the last few days... I monitor my own site regularly for certain 2 word key phrases that I am targeting. My site and a number of sites I'm used to seeing have all plummeted!

My site had reached page 3 & rising for one particular phrase, but strangely enough if you checked the UK only box I was no where!

Now if you don't check the uk box the results seem to be littered with overseas sites. If you check the uk only box I'm on P3.....! Who bothers to check the UK only box! That should really be the default option anyway for g.uk!

Another thing I've noticed over the last few months is via g.uk for these phrases once you start to page thru the results are littered with "scabby out of date" books results all on google.... but I've also noticed if you search via g.com those book results don't appear!!! If someone want's a book surely google should expect you to put that in the search!

Anyway, I think google has made a mistake with that update and will wait a couple of weeks just in case they go back before I decide to make any changes! Although at this moment in time I don't know what I would change!

I haven't noticed anything as of yet? Any idea of what the changes relate to specifically? Although I guess that's a tough one to know as google are so secrative about their algorithm.

yes, there has been a massive bang in the Google Serps, I think it is a backlinking change to the Algorithm, I need to check the test control sites etc to get an absolute idea, but at first look, it seems that social media links are being devalued..

    Thanks.

Just for the record though, these guys have no social media links! Maybe a couple of stumbles but that is it.

In that case I would suggest there SEO has pushed the boat out a tad to far.

Never seen a huge change in any of my sites through all the algo changes to date, except once when I was naughty with a site.

Ah but that's actually the point. They haven't been doing any SEO. The site hasn't been touched in ages.

Now I would expect a slow fall over time due the fact that they haven't been adding any new content but a sudden death drop like the one they just had seems very heavy handed.
