relocating website to US hosting

In the process of transferring a .com website to a US host, as this is to be the target market.

However the domain name is registered in the UK.

With SEO in mind should we transfer the domain name to the host too or will updating the DNS to point to the new US host be sufficient?

I may be wrong, but the full hosting move may well suffice.

The SE bots will look at the resolving IP address and not the whois data IMHO...

Yeah i'm not aware the place of registration matters at all. Don't see how it could.

Exactly right. The transfer of the domain is only for billing and domain management purposes and will make zero difference to SERPs if only the name severs are changed.
