    Default Wordpress v Dreamweaver

From an SEO point of view, which site would perform the best on google.

It seems that more people are opting to have their websites done on wordpress. As ever I am curious to know the difference.

also, if you change an established site from dreamweaver to wordpress, would it affect your rank on google?

IMHO: If you use an accessible them, and there are some very good ones out there, then WordPress for me - given a choice.

I tend to hand-code everything I do. I don't trust WYSIWYG HTML editors as they frequently insert code that isn't necessary, meta tags which I can live without and other inconsistencies. My way, if it goes wrong then I've only got myself to blame.

Funnily enough, I was just discussing the thorny issue of an accessible CMS with a colleague this morning. Result? WordPress with the right theme.

[edit]Sorry, I digress from your original question. Switching from one editor to another shouldn't make a difference to PR or general SEO stuff. Providing you have the same URL, content, meta title and descriptions, etc., then the SE robot probably shouldn't even notice anything. It's worth remembering that SE 'bots are essentially 'blind', meaning that they'll pick up certain meta information and textual content on the site.[/edit]

    HTH!

    Cheers!

Two completely different beasts entirely and both offer two totally different management structures regarding SEO.

One offers a blog structure based CMS and the other is an HTML editor that allows you to create a site from the ground up and add whatever functions you can code.

The elongated SEO answer would depend on your local skill level so I shall offer a short answer...

1 More people are opting for Wordpress...I would say that there may be some fact in the statement that more home based/budget restricted businesses are chosing WP...Why? Many have believed all the hype about 'wordpress will do this, that and the other for your SEO without you needing to know owt about SEM' are opting for it as a quick solution.

It is a quick and easy solution with little skill requirements needed

Lets get one thing straight, whatever your CMS or site structure, wp or otherwise, a flawed SEO practice will impede your progress.

2 Change from your DW site to WP. Why? Is this only for SEO purposes? If so, then DON'T if the site is aged. Work on your site as it stands. Google loves authority and IMHO if your site is of a certain age, changing the entire structure could well result in your rankings slipping way back for a period of time.

So yes, IMHO, if you changed structure there would be a defo impact.

    HTH

Hi Gary, just an addition to your point

Unless she could replicate the exact site structure within WP. If you do not, there would be a huge impact on your SERPs initially in G.

Well, I do need to add links, articles, text and updates to my site, so would require an admin panel in order to do this on my current dreamweaver site.

If it were transferred over in its exact form to wordpress, I could make changes myself. Hence the reason for my question

The essense of good coding and good content, which will massively effect your sites performance, are not a product of either dreamweaver, or wordpress. You can do good work and bad work with either.

We use neither, but that does not guaruntee better SEO. Like a poster above I prefer to hand code, but you can, if you so choose, hand code poorly as well!

Wordpress is essentially a blogging platform. It makes a great tool for a website too but it's not as suited to creating a non blog website as say Joomla or Drupal for example IMHO.

That's what I thought. I always associated word press as a blog platform, but one of my clients was recently telling me that they bought a word press web template from their designer (unless I've misunderstood) & their site looks pretty impressive.

Personally speaking I think there are some really good WYSIWYG editors out there with real good SEO capabilities, which can help people like me who are not to good with web design.
