    Default Index.html & / page links?

    Hi All

I have a question. I have been using the following site backlinkpop and have entered our website with competitors sites. Upon results there is an option for "links on home page". Ours displays "1" while competitors displays many!

Anyone know what this figure is? I thought it was the amount of links pointing to our site but we have many to our homepage.

Also I have checked links with backlinkwatch and displays different results from www.yellownote.co.uk and .co.uk/index.html

    The questions
    1. What is "links on home page"
    2. why do we have different links pointing to .co.uk and index.co.uk? I thoug they were the same page?

They might be the same page in your setup, but they could of course be different and so Google has to treat them as separate pages. (Eg, if you also had a file called index.php with different content and your webserver was set up to default to php files then /index.html would be a different file.)

To get round this, try and get people to link to www.yoursite.co.uk rather than www.yoursite.co.uk/index.html and also make sure all your internal links to your homepage also point to www.yoursite.co.uk

Doesn't matter at all for the domain name. If it is a directory (folder) then it should have the / at the end eg www.yoursite.co.uk/forum/ although in 99.9% of cases it does work without it.

Thank you for all your help Raw Rob, one more question. The backlinks from this site goes to index.html rather then.co.uk? how would I change that, what do i do?

I have also done a 301 redirect on index.html. is this a good idea? will i loose those backlinks pointing to index.html?
