If u go for quality link-building for Your site, it will give much visibility to your site through out SE. There are various types of work like Social-bookmark posting, Link-exchanging and Blog posting but all this should be done consciously.

But even good link building could be seen as a waste of time if the onsite element is not looked at. Coding/Titles/Keywords within Content....and generally good content...

wood1e's comment about bounce rate is spot on.

I have a site that looks awful, to which I get a fair amount of trafiic but hardly anyone clicks on the adsense on my site, nor the affiliate banners & I put that down mainly to the way the site looks & is constructed!

I'm gonna be addressing all this in the very near future though as the site was just set up as an experiment to be honest but I now want to use it properly to make me some more money!
