    Default New website

My website has been live for one month and I don't seem to be getting much through traffic. I have signed up with lots of free directories and was wondering what else I can do on the free side of advertising or what else I can do to promote my website. I am a newbie to how the internet works regarding getting traffic and creating sales and don't fully understand Google adsense and adwords.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Its hard work!

Have I posted in the correct section?

Promoting your site online is going to take either or both of the following:

A large budget to outsource the work
A lot of time to do it in-house

You have some on-site issues with your site. A good place to start would be here:

    Default New site

Thanks again but I keep reading stuff and it all goes over my head, I need something more suitable for dummies or better still visual?

I haven't made the website myself I have used a company who has provided the WYSIWYG editor, learnt how to use it then entered my content. Just doing this has taken longer then I expected; 3 months!

Does this make any difference to what I can and can't do with my website?

All help greatly appreciated, I want to understand so I am in control.

Without having alook at the coding, and layout, you should start by making sure you have more keywords within you page titles (which is what you see at the very of your browser)

You will need to do some research to see what keywords are used more often than others. You can use Google Keyword tool to help give you an idea.

The main problem will come is if your website is not performing as good as it can be, so you should (well anyone) make sure the coding of your website is clean, the content is relevant to your keywords/niche, you have a pleasant and user friendly layout.

This could mean anything from the menu to having a something that catches peoples eye.

There is one thing being top for the most search keyword/keyphrase but if 80% leaving your site without buying (bounce Rate), Then you might as well not be top at all. As it is all about conversion.

Also if it hasn't been done yet, sign up for a Google webmaster account, and track who is visiting and for what keywords.

    Hope this all helps

One of the best directories to try to get into is DMOZ, however you may end up waiting months to get accepted!

It's free though and one of the most popular on the Internet.
