Google not linking to right blog page

I posted this in private thinking it was a daft question but Ray assures me it is not, so thought I would open it up for comments here.

I just looked up a blog post I made a couple of days ago, it's on page 3 for this search

http://www.google.com/search?q=first...&start=20&sa=N

but when I click the link I expect to see that post but I don't, I see the latest post on the blog home page.

Is there a way to direct google links to the right post? Is this just a crappy theme I have chosen?

This is where I want it to go:

Ry has suggested it is normal to be indexed in this way as google are picking it up from the homepage but it looks crappy, is there a way to get google to pick it up from the right page?

Hi sally,

When I click on the link from the google search, it takes me to the main page and your article is featured in third place of the same page.

When I click on your link, the featured article is in 1st place.

Strange but I don't know why. Has to lye within the coding but will wait for an expert to come along.

It's because the post was was indexed from your blog homepage - eventually the single post will outrank the homepage as new posts are added and this one falls off the homepage.

So, nothing to worry about it's totally normal

You'd get more answers posting this in SEO Sal, don't be worried that it's a stupid question - it's a perfectly sensible one

Ray is right, it is a good question. I'll start on the SEO side of things when you have become to the expert Sally.

Oh and I couldn't (and still can't) sleep hence I am still here but catching up with life on A1.

Thanks Ray, I just hope there is a solution. I understand what you say about what google picks up but if you click a link expecting to see a post about dating and see a post about gundogs you are going to get confused and click away. :sad1:
