Default Power of a Domain name?

Search Goolge.co.uk for pet supplies. Last one on page one.

Is this site getting onto page one of google just for its domain name ? Doest seem to be much else going on ??

well there seems to be a trend on google to pay more attention to domain names and a lot less to there beloved page rank.

years ago one did not worry about domain names as they played a small part in getting good rankings ,but sadly this does not seem to be the case now.

so much for googles beloved democracy when the highest bidder gets the best domain names.

I think the domain age has more of an effect than if the domain contains keywords or not. The domain you have mentioned is nearly 10 years old! I have seen this count for a big chunk of onsite SEO weight as a ranking factor, although its a hard thing to test.

Currently websites that contain exact match keyphrase without the need for hyphens on a targetted TLD are often given a large weighting in the SERPs there is several examples of this (one here) however, the niche you are showing doesn't seem to be very competitive the website you showed is fairly established and has links in the Yahoo dir along with a few other directories so would likely hold a position from that alone. If you see the website below it, it isn't much better in terms of backlinks etc!
