It's interesting when people debate Pagerank. The confusion arises perhaps because low PR sites rank higher than sites with a higher PR. Interestingly when it comes to link building Pagerank suddenly becomes very important in most people's eyes.

Pagerank is very helpful when it comes to exchanging links.

It also seems that the higher your pagerank is the more frequently google will spider the site an re-index content or index new content.

Google's robots are supposed to frequent higher PR sites more often than lower PR sites (this can be proven by examining Google's cached dates). As a result, qualifying fresh content from higher PR sites should be indexed faster than new qualifying content from lower PR sites.

It is true to say that for particular subject areas, a percentage of lower PR sites rank higher than higher PR sites in Google's search engine results but this is due in part to the keyword relevancy factor.

Google seems to have dished out a fair amount of PR this time around - I saw one example of a 1 week old site with a couple of links getting a PR1 on the 31/12.

I was ranked top 1 on a couple of different keywords when my website only had PR3. After it got PR4, a lot of subpages are now also ranked top 3, event thou I have not tried to rank on those words.

Just to further prove this point, I imagine (could be wrong) your dream ranking would be page 1 for 'business valuation'. 4 of the top 10 results for this are PR 2 including the third result. It's a mystery.

I am definitely not ranked top 10 on "business valuation" not even top 1000. That website is recently started and is only PR3. But I believe google has a filter on some keywords, that makes only old websites rank good (with high thrust rank). If you analyse the competitors on the keyword "business valuation" you will notice that the competition is low (in terms of inlinks and onsite SEO).

I do not say that PR is important in every aspect of SEO, but I did notice a difference when my page was upgraded from PR3 to PR4 for subpages.

Yes, mine also went up and I believe we are now pagerank 3!
