Default Search results and dotcom domains

    Hi all,

I'm very happy because my site is on page 1 for 'beadmaking scotland' if I search the whole web (google).

But, if I search UK, my site is nowhere to be seen! This looks odd, but I'm guessing it's because I'm dotcom, not dotcodotuk. Am I right? If so, what can I do about it, if anything?

    Thanks in advance,

    Sean

yeah, it's the physical location of the server you need to make sure is in the UK. Beware of companies that appear to be UK based but use servers elsewhere. 1and1 based in Slough but use German servers, for example.

I agree with the above comments - move your hosting to uk servers. I'd go to Phil @ Openmind

.co.uk is not affected by this issue as it's a country specific TLD.

It affects .com, .net, .org etc

OK, if you won't, I will...

    NOOOOOOOOO!!

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, int it? I was so chuffed with myself for following the ubiquitous advice to "get the dotcom domain if you can", but noone says "unless you're hosted outside the uk, in which case get the dotcodotuk domain", do they? Oh, no, that's a secret, that is...

    Ho hum.

So, will moving the server adversely affect the seo I've done so far in any way, or will it just 'shift the emphasis'?

Thanks Ray for the Openminded tip...

    Cheers,

    Sean

keep an eye on your SERPS and visitors from google when you move.

you'll likely drop a little on .com from non uk searchers but of course pick up traffic from .co.uk
