Sorry to put it more into perspective if the competitors are fighting for those keywords then you will find yourself in a more competitive arena.
I would suggest getting a keyword report from someone like dotwhack and getting the content on the homepage and all of the meta data working together as a start
Many of those keywords are extremely competitive and you might want to consider how someone might think about one of those products where they don't necessarily type in the words as you would. Red Evo (sic) has a great keyword generator which could come in handy for finding terms people search for while looking for those products which could be of great use to you.

Yes - it really all does start with keyword research.
And this falls into two distinct areas:
1. What do people search for?
2. What can I reasonably target (given the competion)
What do I mean by this?
Well, keyword research may for instance state that "computers" is the most searched for example. But you have no chance for ranking for this, and even if you could, would it convert?
However, proper keyword research will identify a range of keywords that you do have a chance of ranking for, with lower competition, and will convert, for example, that might be "cheap computer components uk" or whatever.
But the point is, they must be terms actually searched for - not your best guess.
Now, once you have this information (and not before) you can start your SEO strategy aimed at the keyword targets identified
