My site is aimed at Manchester Airport Parking only yet at the bottom I have links to all of the other UK airports as I used to offer all of them also. I found by focusing on Manchester I could get higher up the serps.
I never removed the links at the bottom and each one links to a page relevant to that particular airport and its parking.
My question is this. I am seeing traffic leaving my site from clients who are looking for alternative parking to Manchester and I wondered if it would harm my ranking for Manchester Airport Parking if I put an affiliate link on each of the other airport pages in order to try and capture traffic for other airports?
What I dont want to do is lose my position for Manchester just because I want more business. ANy suggestions anybody?
Why do you want to give visitors any option whatsoever to leave your site for any other that you dont own? (You said 'used to offer them' so I presume now you don't and just offer manchester parking).
Indezine the visitors I am talking about are already leaving my site as they are looking for airport parking other than Manchester. My thoughts were that if they want alernative parking and are going to have to leave my site anyway to find it then I might aswell provide it through an affiliate.
My concern is that I dont want to harm my position for the search term Manchester Airport Parking through doing this and wondered if anybody thought it would bearing in mind the alternative pages are already on my site talking about the other airports and their car parks?

Is this the right approach? I have always been of the feeling that users are going to leave your site anyway, especially in this situation, so you may as well funnel them through a link that will earn you something.
I dont think it would harm your serps just by changing the link - though it may do if the anchor text is changed, you could try changing one over at a time and assess if it makes any difference

The link on each of my pages takes people to a page about that particular airport anyway all I would be doing would be putting an additional link on each of those pages to help my visitors get what they are searching for anyway.
By doing this at least if they are evr looking for Manchester Airport Parking they may consider me in the future.
I think the problem comes with many affiliate links within a site and lack of original content. You have original content on those pages(I presume) so adding one affiliate link to the page should have no detrimental effect to SEO.
As Mike says why not test on one page anyway. You can gauge results to both SEO and revenue gains by having the link.
