One question for the SEO's : do you believe that there are fields/industries out there that is so saturated, it will be impossible to rank anywhere near page 1?

I personally think it's possible to rank number one for any given keyword/industry, but as far as business go at the moment (or websites), I would say the Hosting industry is over saturated on every level.

I think it is possible to rank for any term,but whether anyone is prepared to pay the price tag,is probably another matter.

I think it was Capability Brown who when asked what the best garden fertilizer was replied.

Would you SEO'rs look at keywords or the business sector to gauge how well you think that you can improve the rankings?

Keyword research is a powerful form of market research. I've seen significant business opportunities simply from researching keywords.

I agree with RedEvo on that.

I do a 3 step strategy....

1) Choose a sector.
2) Keyword Research.
3) Competitive Research.

I think Dave made a very valid point, I have implemented where I can and seen results very quickly sometimes but because of the way my website is built, other than the home page, I can't change the page titles and meta data to be individual to that page. There is no doubt a way to do it but until I become a programmer (think hell freezing over) or find some spare cash to pay the web designer to do it then I am stuck with what I can do.

I am also a one woman band and time is therefore limited, so between SEO, link building, keeping my members happy and blogging I am bloody knackered and constantly falling behind what I would like to achieve.
