The official line is that nofollow links don't pass pagerank or count towards ranking. See here. That said - the links do seem to be followed as I have such links showing up in my backlinks on Yahoo Site Explorer and Webmaster Tools
I think what UKSBD was asking is does it work if the nofollow part is not put in quote (ie: rel=nofollow instead of rel="nofollow")
My "belief" is that Google will not see this as a valid flag and ignore it.
So yes it will get followed and pank rank will get passed if the nofollow flag is not set up properly in quotes is my guess.

I put about the no quotes in the title, but not the message (sorry for

Yes Mike is right. Attribute values have to be placed in quotation marks else they are not attribute values and therefore would not be spidered as such.
