Default nofollow with no quotes?

Came accross a site a couple of days where external links were nofollowed
using rel=nofollow anyone run any tests or know whether the links would
be followed or not?

The official line is that nofollow links don't pass pagerank or count towards ranking. See here. That said - the links do seem to be followed as I have such links showing up in my backlinks on Yahoo Site Explorer and Webmaster Tools

Ray,

I think what UKSBD was asking is does it work if the nofollow part is not put in quote (ie: rel=nofollow instead of rel="nofollow")

My "belief" is that Google will not see this as a valid flag and ignore it.

So yes it will get followed and pank rank will get passed if the nofollow flag is not set up properly in quotes is my guess.

Yes, that's right.
I put about the no quotes in the title, but not the message (sorry for
the confusion)

I was also guessing that google would ignore the tag but don't really know
I will probably set up a few test pages and see what happens.
Unfortunately, I didn't bookmark the site in question and have forgotten
which it was.

Not sure why you would want to test?

Were you planning to put nofollow without quotes for some reason??

Yes Mike is right. Attribute values have to be placed in quotation marks else they are not attribute values and therefore would not be spidered as such.

No, but if I can find the site who made the mistake again, I will add a few
more of my sites to it

I wonder if that's true just because of a coding lapse

I know if you write cellpadding=0 instead of cellpadding="0" it still works

OK, that's browser rendering, but the SEs still know what the code is for.... my take is it will work as it is intended but it would be worth testing
